Vulnerabilities in VoIP
More than a hundred vulnerabilities were discovered in voice-over-internet-protocol or VoIP hardware from distinguished vendors such as Cisco, Nortel, and Avaya. According toe VoIPshield Laboratories, the vulnerabilities can be exploited by hackers who want to spy on individuals and organizations. These hackers have the ability of record calls as well as extort money by using threats of service outrages. On the other hand, the VoIP vendors argue that the threats that currently exist are quite minimal.
VoIP Laboratories is the research department of the VoIP Systems which provides security tools for VoIP setups. They have offered to help vendors identify remedies for the vulnerabilities and three vendors were chosen because of their popularity in the market. Other vendors such as Microsoft will come under scrutiny as well.
