SlideShare: PowerPoint Sharing
Who would have thought that slideshows would generate a lot of interest among internet giants? Many people think that PowerPoint is boring and outdated but the new program, SlideShare makes users think twice about this old perception. SlideShare has announced that it got $3 million worth of investments from Venrock which is s venture capitalist, Mark Cuban who is the founder of Broadcast.com, and Jonathan Abrams who is the founder of Friendster.
Since its launch in 2006, the company has turned into the YouTube of PowerPoint fans. Using the site, users will be able to share image and text presentations, respond to each other’s presentation, and tag their favorites. In addition, the site has the capability to create a combination of PowerPoint and music tracks so make the slideshow a lot more interesting.
Critics of the concept are only a loud few because many users appreciate the simplicity of sharing through PowerPoint. It provides a more linear format where the navigation is under the user’s control. Currently, the site makes money through Google advertisements but there are plans to collect payments from directing sales.
