Google and American Airlines Row
Its again this time after losing to Louis Vuitton SA in the French court last year, Google has been accused of selling search words involving its name “American Airlines”. Pay-per-click is Google’s main source of revenue and was also a target of an Australian commision a few months back.
American Airlines lawsuit filed on 16th August accuses Google of violating trademark laws and getting into the service of selling trademark words for search related results. Terms like AA.com and American Airlines are reserved terms and several companies can make use of these google to use American Airlines brand name for its publicity.
Google opposed the lawsuit saying that there is a fine balance between the trademark words and consumer’s interests. They are trying their best to avoid these kinds of rows. Finally the result it that Google has to be more alert about its search related results as it has already seen some setbacks in Louis Vuitton and some more cases earlier.
