Is Windows Getting Obese?
Windows is undeniably one of the most useful products ever created in technology. But with a lot of software being developed these days, Microsoft undeniably wants to remain ahead of the competition. With this in mind, they are creating Windows to be as complex and functional as possible. They are integrating various features and capabilities so that users will enjoy seamless performance but the opposite may actually happen. This is because some programs are so large that Windows may “collapse” under its own weight.
When you take the example of the Vista, it is inevitable to conclude the Windows need to reset back into the past to its known code that is based on the Windows Server 2003. To a large extent, this is the reason that the Vista gave only incremental improvements. All these things led people to believe, that the Vista is not a must-have upgrade. Another consideration that needs to be looked into is the computer hardware. It is important to point out that some PCs don’t have the necessary components to take advantage of the features available in the Windows Vista.

Windows XP in Low-Cost Computers
When Microsoft Released the Vista operating system last year, some users did not like this system at all. They loaded the old XP edition onto their new Vista computers. And right now, it appears that the XP will live longer after all. This is because even as Microsoft had decided previously to stop selling the XP edition, they changed their tactic and the XP will now be available on low-cost computers in the market.
The Software manufacturer has given this particular operating system a reprieve in order to sell pre-loaded XP Home Edition computers in very low-cost PC. This development gives consumers who want to get a second or third PC a good and cheaper alternative compared to the standard PC.
Microsoft actually decided on this course of action after they had received feedback from manufacturing partners and consumers about their preference for ultra low-cost PC (ULCPC) devices called while using the Windows XP operating system. The specifications between the standard PC and the ULCPC may slightly differ because the latter has smaller screen size as well as a flash based storage. The ULCPC also has a lower-powered processors and slower performance compared to their more expensive standard PC counterparts.

DirectX 10: Disappointing.

“Many of the newest Windows games will take full advantage of the next-generation graphics technology in Windows Vista called DirectX 10.” says Microsoft. Gamers(mostly) don’t care what is behind the all hyped up DirectX 10. They care about the power it gives and the new feel it gives. And sorry to say, DX10 is not upto the mark.Wondering why? DX10 will only run on systems which have Windows Vista and a fairly high-end graphics card. Developers are really thinking whether to use DX10 considering the slow upgrades by users to Vista.
The upcoming games : Call of Juarez, Lost Planet and Company of heroes have the same kind of the DX9 feel with extra graphical improvements and some new features. Crave even ran a DX10 machine and DX9 machine side by side and it was nearly impossible to detect differences.
OUR TAKE: Don’t be sad that you just upgraded to Vista hoping to see some real game experience. Wait for more titles(more like kind hearted Devs) before you throw that machine to dogs.
