Nokia E70 PDA Phone

When you first look at the Nokia E70, it does not look like any high-powered PDA phone with its candy-bar style. Its small screen of 2.1 inch and tiny keyword looks more like a small cell phone; once you flip it up though, the magic begins. It has a roomy QWERTY keyboard that can be split in two with half on the right and the other on the left.

When you open the unit, it automatically changes its orientation to horizontal from vertical. Its shape is somehow unattractive because of its large hinge that is integrated in its opening and closing functionality. Holding the E70 to your ear is not as comfortable as it should be.

Overall, the E70 is a relatively good phone with all the expected features. It has MP3 player, the built-in camera, web browsing, organizers, and Symbian’s office-document editor and viewers. The audio quality leaves much to be desired though other features such as the long battery life and good MP3 player makes up for its deficiencies.

Palm Treo 700wx

The Palm Treo 700w was upgraded to the 700wx edition. Both versions have astounding similarities including its design and operating system. The improvements can be seen in its internal capabilities including the RAM upgrade. It has around 48MB, double the memory of the 700w. The result is a more responsive and faster device that makes a better device to use.

However, despite all its upgrades, there is also some inevitable downside to the 700wx edition. Similar to other Mobile-based Treo, there is an excessive amount of button and taps necessary to launch any of its programs. Its unintuitive interface also makes it hard for the user to navigate easily from one program to the next. 700wx is a good business PDA because it comes with all the usual complements including Mobile Office programs and Mobile Outlook for email.

The 700wx bore striking similarities with other types of Treos not only in terms of design but also in terms of capabilities. Its voice quality is just about average although it operates nicely on speakerphone. With an average talk time of 5 hours and 30 minutes, its battery life leaves much to be desired. But then again, at $500, you can say that this PDA is a bargain.

iPhone 3G Reviews

iPhone 3G reviews have been released. The lucky few who were selected to review this famous gadget include David Pogue of the New York Times, Walt Mossberg of All Things Digital, and Edward Baig of USA Today. There wasn’t a lot of surprises since everyone already knew what 3G is all abut; with the exception of features such as GPS, fast network, and third party applications, the iPhone is basically the same.

Still, there are some interesting details that were revealed from the review. For example, Mossberg was dismayed over the battery life because it drained a lot quickly compared to the original iPhone. This is most likely because 3G networks require a high power demand and therefore its consumption is also higher. Meanwhile, Baig thought that it consumed almost the same amount of energy as the original version.

One of the most significant additions to iPhone, in Pogue’s opinion, is the presence of GPS. Apple stated that its antenna is too small for turn-by-turn navigation by Baig said it wasn’t bad at all. In fact, he was impressed by its accuracy. Overall, the 3G is a nice upgrade but it could have been included in the original version already.
