Blogger’s Online Habits
In a first ever study regarding the online habits of blog readers, UC Irvine researchers have unearthed several interesting facts about blog reading. Previously, most studies have been centered on the blog writer, not the blog reader. With this study though, all that is about to change as the writer will learn how to connect more effectively with their readers. The researches found that there are readers who frequently love to post comments while others just “lurk” around a blog despite being a frequent visitor.
In addition, they also found out that readers have varied opinions on what makes a blog an actual blog. For example, readers conclude that blogs should have technical aspects such as trackback bait, social aspects, RSS feeds, and personal content. This is opposed to the academic opinion that a blog is basically a web page which has dated entries in reverse order.
In addition, the researches found out that blog reading becomes less content oriented as readers make it a habit to read a particular blog. And similar to reading their e-mails daily, reading blogs is becoming part of the user’s routine when they go online. In fact, it has been noted that the usefulness of the content can take second place to the activity of reading and skimming a particular blog to fulfill the person’s routine.
